What Do We Do Now?? An Answer to The Gay Marriage Bans

If you were one of the couples affected by the gay marriage bans voted into law in the states of Florida, Arizona, or California, our sincerest condolences go out to you and your family in this time. The same if you were affected by the adoption ban in Arkansas.

It's a bittersweet time in our history, with the country's first African American President in history set to take office; while chickens and cows won more rights than gay-people did in California. "Everyone is hurting and don't know what to do," said Kimberlee Woods at a protest Nov. 7th. She is the executive director of The Gay and Lesbian Center of Long Beach. "The overwhelming response is not surprising.

People are tired of being relegated to the back of the bus", she said. You can bet that there are a lot of us here in California, around the nation, and across the world who are angry and ready to act, so here is a list of the things that we can all do to answer to the marriage bans and the fact that California just wrote discrimination into their Constitution, and other states have banned gay marriage as well.

They will continue to do so unless we stand up united and fight for our rights. If not, who knows which rights of ours will be voted away next! Here is a checklist of things for you to make sure to do to voice your disagreement with the gay marriage bans:

____ File a Lawsuit.
Lawsuits are being filed on behalf of the couples who were married in California, and you should check to see if there are lawsuits you should be included in where you live. Filing a lawsuit when your civil rights have been violated is a duty you have to yourself and those who look up to you, and can have a huge impact on these discriminatory laws.

Donate to The Invalidate Prop 8 Campaign. Send a message to the Mormon Church, whose members raised more than $15 million to fund the deceitful advertising campaign for Proposition 8, the initiative that takes away the right to marry for same sex couples in California!

Make a donation to support the legal organizations working to invalidate Proposition 8 and to fund grass-roots activities in support of full marriage equality. For every donation of $5 or more, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center will send a postcard to President Thomas Monson’s office in Salt Lake City, acknowledging your donation in his name.

____ Attend a Local Protest.

You can find a list of protests going on around the nation here, including a national cry to call for equal rights at the steps of your city hall on November 15th. Bring signs with valid points plus your camera or take video. Be friendly and peaceful to the media, make your point with your signs. Wear your walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. More info on the National Protest can be found at JoinTheImpact.org .

____ Join The Rainbow Dragon Network. The Rainbow Dragon Network is a list of organizations around the world who are ready to be called upon when members of the LGBT community are in need. If you lead a local LGBT outreach organization or program, please send your contact details to therainbowdragon@yahoo.com .

____ Display Signs and Graphics. On The Smoking Cocktail I saw that Rob at Scout Productions (producers of Queer Eye) made signs that are really catchy. If you are going to a protest, these are some cool signs to have. Here's a picture of Robin Tyler and Diane Olson, the original plaintiffs in the gay marriage lawsuit here in California with one:

You can find out who the major supporters and opposers of Prop. 8 here, or you can find out who donated to the campaign in your area here.

____ Start Your Own Website or Blog. Sharing your voice with the world or maintaining a resource site for the LGBT community is one of the best ways you can help spread the message of equal rights around the world. We have a database of sites that are available and waiting for you to manage them!! Please contact Julie Phineas if this is something that interests you.

____ Help Our Campaign Land Celebrity Endorsements. Many celebrities have spoken out for us Madonna, Chelsea Lately, Darryl Stephens, Samuel Jackson, Melissa Etheridge and more. Celebrity visibility is important to keeping our issue in the spotlight! If you've heard about the theory of 6 degrees of separation that means that some of you out there know celebrities and can make contact with them.

If you ever needed to call in a favor, NOW is the time to do so! Reach out through your network and get the message to celebrities that we need their help and support towards the LGBT civil rights movement. Encourage them to perform to raise money and awareness for our community and let them know about this post so they know what else they can do to help!

____ Mass Mormon Resignation Planned. If you are a Mormon, consider joining the mass resignation planned. Visit this site to find resources and information about resigning and to post your letter of resignation.

____ Go to A Church Where You Are Supported. If you are a church-goer (or not), attend local church services where you know that you and/or your family will be accepted and invited. ____ Call for A Separation of Church and State Donate to the Freedom from Religion Foundation started by atheists who are active in the call for a separation of church and state. ____ Join the Fight to Revoke the LDS Tax Exempt Status. Visit this website which gives out detailed information on how to do that.

Ellen Sad - Melissa No Taxes - Boycott Utah -

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres said she was “saddened beyond belief” at the decision by voters to ban the newly-won rights of gays and lesbians to marry in California.
But singer Melissa Etheridge sounds downright angry.

Etheridge, 47, who did not get to marry her partner Tammy Lynn Michaels before the Nov 4 ballot, suggested in a blog post that she would no longer pay her California state taxes because, as a lesbian, she did not now enjoy the same rights as as other Californians.

Why are the Mormons Trying to Stop Gay Marriage in California

Why are the Mormons Trying to Stop Gay Marriage in California - Don't they make the Laws in Utah? Why fight so hard to STOP us from Marrying when the Mormons should know how bad it is to have others judge who you want to Marry and what goes on in your Home. The Mormons have NO RIGHT to speak of what they deem to be our morals or to tell us what we need to do in order to be moral.

It is Time To Stand Up - to Make Folks know that We are Viable - Productive - Intelligent members of this society and we deserve the same rights as all who "Choose" to be Straight.

Prop 8 Rally Call to March on Mormon Temple in Los Angeles

Lez Get Real's own contributors were at the Prop. 8 Protest Rally held in Santa Monica, CA earlier tonight. Streets were closed in the area to accommodate the gathering. Here is what happened at that rally, as reported to me via text message from p.

Johanna: "There was a reverend speaking and also another woman, who said this is a human rights issue. The crowd was really hyped. They said we need to stay angry! We need to keep going against Prop. 8 and towards civil rights and equality in the U.S.

The crowd cheered in unison 'Yes we can! Yes we can!' They said we shouldn't be violent, but that we should work together to not be at the back of the bus anymore.

The crowd yelled 'Equal rights! Equal rights!

News channels began to arrive and it seemed like they didn't know this event was happening. A call was issued to march on the Mormon Temple at 10777 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles at 2pm tomorrow November 6th. Bring your signs and video cameras.

Jerry Brown the State Attorney spoke saying that
the marriages performed between June and yesterday are still valid.

They are fighting for us and it's a legal mess. They are working around the clock on this. Jerry Brown says that we need to walk together, to walk in solidarity. The crowd yelled together 'Yes we can! Yes we can!'.Javier Angulo called for a Chicano clap.

The crowd yelled 'Si se puede! Si se puede!'. A helicopter flew overhead, and the crowd cheered at it. Javier Angulo quotes Martin Luther King Jr. saying that he had a dream and Obama made part of that dream come true.

He says that now our fundamental rights have been infringed upon, but hold onto hope - all the votes have not been counted. Regardless, he said to take pride in achieving social justice.

He said that the Latino community is often overlooked, and that Latinos value social justice. He says we have an ally. At that point everyone, even other nationalities chanted 'Si se puede! Si se puede!'.

The helicopter shined its light on the crowd. He said they were shining the light on discrimination. At that point, the woman began to speak again and said that bigotry is not only here, but in Arkansas, Arizona and Florida, but said that years to come the people who voted Yes on Prop 8 and in the other States will be ashamed of themselves. The crowd cheered 'Shame! Shame!'. She said that we are on the right side of history.

Now, we're mad. And when we get mad, we work harder and we work smarter.
The opposition will wish they didn't mess with us.

At that, the crowd went crazy. I would often hear, 'TAX THEM! TAX THEM!'

She continued by saying that if we look at Prop. 22 we lost by a higher margin. This time we were within 5 points. That is enormous progress. The crowd yelled 'Not enough! Not enough!'.

They were very angry!

She went on to say that we make a promise to our opponents that we will gain our rights back, and we will crush discrimination. She said don't lose heart; use this as a push; don't give up... vow to continue the fight. She said to talk to everyone you know and tell them why the vote was wrong and how it was wrong from the start. Tell them how the majority was tyrannical to the minority, she continued. Tomorrow we will march on the Mormon Temple.

"Folks Please Go if you can Get there - it is Time for the WHOLE nation to fight for California. California Lesbian Rights Activists change the world for ALL of us Lesbians" OutLesbian.com

The crowd cheered. The emphasis seems to be against the Mormons, and to fight against them. The crowd cheered in unison 'Equal rights! Equal rights!'

There was a sign next to me that said 'You can't amend love.'

At that point she told us the rally was over.
She said that tonight do not take it to the streets.
We aren't taking it to our streets, she continued, tomorrow we take it to theirs."

Thank You California Lesbians,
Our Prayers are With You All...
Thank YOU for Fighting for ALL of Us OUT Lesbians.

Never Will I understand How Keeping Me from Being Married as You Can affects your personal life. With the Heterosexual Couples, the Multiple Marrying Couples (Mormons) and the Faith Be Stronger and somehow restored by keeping me from marrying. I am still just as married as you are but without the government benefits you get, without basic human righs of visiting my spouse easily in the hospital - your VOTE is not changing our moral choices and can NEVER change who we are, Your Vote only puts your Hate on your Sleeve for ALL to See.

Well At least the Conservatives Did Not Lose Everything on Election Nite..

Most Gay and Lesbians will simply and peacefully return to the lives and wait to stand up again when the time comes. However, the folks - the Mormon Money - and all those who rose up to Stop Loving Couples in California from Marrying - I ask you, will this really make your life better? How Could it Possibly?

My Love is NOT a Contract it is a Committment, STOP saying you approve of 2 adults having a Contract, I don't approve of a large percentage of Heterosexual Couples - of Loveless and abusive marriage - of WEAK domestic violence laws - of pregnant teen - of smoking while pregnant BUT I don't see any laws to assist with any of this.

Only a Law to Keep me In my place and try and save the supposed spiritual sould of which Do unto Others as you would have be done upon you is apparently of NO Use. Seems to me it is a chance to pick and choose which parts of the bible and your intrepretation of this parts that you ENFORCE onto the rest of us with really NO right to do so. We cannot come into your home and change what we Do Not approve of YET you in your almighty Right believe you have that Right over Us.

Attention: All of you OUT Lesbians, We at OutLesbian.com wish to say we are Sorry For Your Loss on Proposition 8 and we are glad that you are out and proud, tell your story online, share your wonderful words - your beautiful life with all of us. Idea: Lets Start a Group, a MASSIVE group to get Group Insurance for Lesbians and once and for all overcome the issue of a Spouse not being insured for whatever ignorant reason should come up.

Let's hit each issue the Lesbian community faces with Numbers, Millions and Millions of Us online networking - creating - supporting each other and Creating Solutions BETTER then ANY government could EVER created for Us...

Why is this Such an Agenda ? Does It Really Matter so Much to Keep Us from Equal Rights?

Early Polls Show California's Prop 8 Gaining
Early poll results Tuesday night showed California voters leaning toward overturning same-sex marriage in the state in a decision that could impact how the issue plays out elsewhere in the nation. Approval of Proposition 8 would be a stunning upset in a $70-million campaign that just weeks ago looked to be running in favor of preserving gay marriage rights.
By 9 p.m. in California, 54.5 % of voters favored passing Prop 8, as the measure is known, and 45.5% were against it, with 20.9% of precincts voting, according to the Secretary of State. However, both sides cautioned that the vote could be very close and that it might still be early to declare a winner. The passage of Prop 8, as it is known, would be a major victory for religious conservatives seeking to ban gay marriage in other states, and a crippling setback for the gay rights movement nationwide.
